We purchased our home in the fall of 2011, and one of the first things we fell in love with was our new, once well mantained landscaping. HUGE trees, bushes, shrubs, hostas, more HUGE trees, thick grass, ivy, and even more HUGE trees. Arrghhh!!
And after a few months of mowing grass, raking leaves that had fallen from those HUGE trees, pruning, chopping, and pulling up dead things that we weren't sure if they were plants or weeds, we
figured out...we don't love our new, once well mantained landscape at all!! In fact, we actually hate it. No, not a hate like we're plagued with something dreadful, but a hate that kind of sounds like, "man, I wish we could make this our own." Everything we have in our outside space, looks nothing like "us."
So the search began for landscaping ideas we would like, and that would turn our yard space into a place that looked like "us". Don't you just love looking and dreaming??
Geesh! All we wanted to do was pull up some old shrubs and plants some new flowers. We didn't know it would take all of this!
Luckily we ran across some very helpful basic gardening tips here from the people over at
simple homemade and decided to do something that they highly suggest to all beginners. Start small!!!
So that is what we are going to do with a very small portion of a flower bed we have behind our house next to the patio area.
So here is our To Do List :
1.
2. Save all plants for relocation or composting (compost is on another To Do List :)
3. Till the soil
4. Test the soil
5. Pick out possible plants for the site, and plant them!!
We looked at a few choices on-line that Jenn really liked:
If you have any suggestions or tip for us, please leave them in our comments. We need as much help as possible!!!
