I remember the good 'ol days of dating. You know, spearmint fresh breath, dressing in your Sunday's best, and oh yes....the finest of dining. I mean, it was almost a job in itself to find a place for some good chow that wouldn't leave a dent in your pocket by the end of the night.
Ohhhhh how I love the the privileges of being married. I'm not at all saying that you shouldn't treat yourself every now and then to some equisite cuisine. But there's something about being able to snuggle up with your honey in your PJs with a glass of white wine, munchin' on a super easy 10 minute Middle Eastern snack with a ridiculously funny "B movie" from RedBox. All this can be yours for well under 20 buckaroos!!
Jenn and I go to eatingwell.com to get a lot of ideas and recipes, just like the one we got for our date night hummus snack.
I wasn't too eager to jump on the hummus band wagon. But I'm telling you right now,
get on the wagon!
You can go here to get the full recipe. We tweaked the amount of a couple of our ingredients along the way to fit our palettes. A little more garlic shouldn't hurt if it's just you guys, right?
Black Bean chips and whole wheat pita bread for scooping |
We already had most of the ingredients in our fridge (which is one reason we like hummus so much), but it took us at least 3 stores to find the tahini, so prepare for the scavenger hunt in your town. A Fresh Market or specialty store with a Middle Eastern selection shoud have it.

Viola'!!
Hummus is cheap to make, takes no time to make wip up, high in fiber (if you need some help in that area) and not to mention, it's gooood!!!
Start dipping it up with some black bean chips, whole wheat pita bread, cucumbers or carrots and you'll find yourself with an empty plate not too long after.
Enjoy!
